A national infrastructure supporting an integrated approach to food

CALIS supports both academic researchers and socio-economic stakeholders. The infrastructure federates and connects platforms with complementary expertise in order to provide coordinated access to resources enabling the implementation of ambitious interdisciplinary projects.

The areas of expertise covered by CALIS are structured around three main pillars:

• Consumer: understanding eating behaviours and the factors influencing food choices; sensory sciences; humanities and social sciences; participatory research; surveys, cohorts, and consumer data collection.

• Food: characterisation of foods and their components; food design, formulation, and processing; assessment of food quality, safety, and functionality; physicochemical and microbiological analyses, as well as omics approaches.

• Health: study of the effects of foods and dietary patterns on human health; implementation of clinical and intervention studies; nutritional and metabolic phenotyping; exploration of biomarkers, imaging, biobanks, and secure health data management.

UNH actively contributes to the structuring of this infrastructure, notably through:

• the secondment of one of the two directors of the CALIS research infrastructure (IR CALIS) in collaboration with the SayFood Joint Research Unit (UMR SayFood);

• the financial management of the infrastructure.
