Research Activity

Polyphenols are abundant micronutrients in plant-based foods, and their consumption has been linked to a lower risk of chronic diseases. In addition to their antioxidant properties, polyphenols have the ability to regulate the immune response and modulate the inflammatory response.

Research Themes :
-    Study of the bioavailability and metabolism of polyphenols: anthocyanins, flavones, phenylpropane derivatives, etc.
-    Protective effects of polyphenols against colonic inflammation (rat-induced colonic inflammation model)
-    Evaluation of the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiglycant properties of plants of dietary and medicinal interest
-    Evaluation of the stability of various polyphenolic compounds under digestive conditions using a standardized in vitro digestion protocol

Methodologies used :
- Colonic inflammation model induced in rats by oral administration of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)
- Standardized in vitro digestion protocol
- Evaluation of antioxidant and antiglycant properties (DPPH, FRAP, ABTS, ORAC tests, inhibition of the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), evaluation of α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, etc.)
